Comcast plans to separate NBCUniversal and Sky from its cable and broadband business
The US media group says it will create a new listed company for its entertainment assets, including Sky, NBCUniversal and theme parks.
Comcast said on Monday it intends to split off its media arm into a separate publicly traded company, leaving its cable and broadband operations in the parent business. The new company would hold NBCUniversal, Sky and the group’s theme park interests.
The company said the separation is expected to take about a year. Comcast bought Sky’s European business for £31bn eight years ago, and the planned restructuring would place that asset in the new media company.
The move comes as large media groups continue to reassess how to organise their television, film and streaming assets alongside slower-growing connectivity businesses. Comcast did not say in the announcement how the split would affect Sky News.
