Klay Thompson expected to sign with Miami after Dallas buyout
The Mavericks have agreed to part ways with the five-time All-Star, who is expected to join the Heat after clearing waivers.
Klay Thompson is set to leave the Dallas Mavericks after the team agreed to a contract buyout, and he is expected to sign with the Miami Heat once waivers are cleared, according to people familiar with the matter. The move comes after a brief stint in Dallas that began with his arrival from Golden State.
ESPN reported that Thompson is likely to land in Miami after the waiver process ends. A person who spoke to The Associated Press said Thompson has not yet announced the plan publicly.
Thompson, a five-time All-Star, joined the Mavericks in a deal that followed the franchise's trade of Luka Doncic. The buyout ends his two-year run with Dallas.
The Heat have been linked with Thompson as they look to add perimeter shooting, while Dallas moves on from a player it acquired only recently. The transaction is the latest roster change involving a team still adjusting after the Doncic trade.
