Mistral plans 1 gigawatt of European AI compute by 2030
The French AI company is expanding its data-centre network and offering long-term compute contracts as it seeks to meet rising demand in Europe.
Mistral AI said on Tuesday it wants to build 1 gigawatt of computing capacity in Europe by 2030, a move aimed at meeting growing demand for artificial intelligence services and keeping more workloads on the continent. The French company also unveiled new products for customers that want tighter control over where their AI runs.
The plan includes regional inference endpoints that let users choose Europe or the United States, plus a premium service tier with uptime guarantees for critical uses, according to Mistral. The company said it is also creating European Compute Units, a contract structure that gives enterprise customers long-term access to its infrastructure.
Mistral said the commitments from a group of European companies will help finance about 200 megawatts of capacity by the end of 2027, rising to the full gigawatt target by 2030. The company said its current network is below 200 megawatts and includes sites near Paris, in Sweden and in Les Ulis, France.
The anchor customers include Amadeus, ASML, Capgemini and CMA CGM, which have all backed the effort in statements released by the company. Mistral said the arrangement is designed to give customers more control over deployment, continuity and compliance while it builds out more European infrastructure.
The company also said it will host third-party open models on its platform, starting with GLM-5.2 from Chinese AI lab Z.ai. Mistral said the move fits its plan to act as a regional distribution layer for enterprise AI, even as it continues training its own models and deepens ties with Microsoft.
