Survey finds many MPs’ staff in Westminster face threats and abuse
More than 500 parliamentary staff in Britain reported threats, harassment and physical attacks, prompting calls for stronger security at Westminster.
Staff working for members of parliament in Westminster are urging tighter security after a survey found widespread threats, abuse and some physical assaults. The poll, published on Friday, also found many respondents were experiencing serious psychological strain.
According to the survey of more than 500 MPs’ staff, 78% said they had received threatening calls or messages. Nearly one in three said they feared for their own safety or for colleagues.
The findings add to growing concern about the risks faced by people employed in and around the UK parliament. The survey was reported by The Guardian and focused on staff working for MPs at Westminster.
