Zinc prices reach four-year high as supply tightens

Zinc climbed to its highest level since 2022 after mine and smelter disruptions reduced available supply outside China.

Zinc prices rose to a four-year peak on Friday as traders reacted to tighter supply in the global market. The metal, used to coat steel, touched $3,955 a metric tonne, according to market data cited in business coverage.

The move came after inventories on the London Metal Exchange fell sharply and disruptions at mines and smelters limited refined output. Analysts said the shortage of readily available material outside China meant even modest buying had a bigger effect on prices.

Copper also held firm on the same supply concerns, with availability remaining a support for the wider metals complex. The price gains were reported in rolling coverage of global financial markets and commodities.
