Google enables Fitbit data sharing with Apple Health on iPhone
An update to Google Health now lets iPhone users send Fitbit activity and wellness data into Apple Health as well as read it back.
Google has added two-way syncing between Fitbit and Apple Health on iPhone, letting users share workouts, steps and other health readings across the two apps, according to reports on Monday. The change arrives through an update to the Google Health app.
The new version, 5.05, includes a Partner apps option under a user’s profile, where Apple Health can be selected to link the accounts. Until now, the connection only allowed Google Health to import data from Apple’s system.
The update follows the launch in May of the Google Health app alongside a new line of Fitbit trackers. At that stage, the app could pull in information from an iPhone, Apple Watch and other HealthKit-connected services, but it could not send Fitbit data back.
The feature closes that gap for iPhone users who track health data on both platforms, extending a link that had previously worked in only one direction.
