Icac hears claim a Reformers associate may have misled donors over Angus Taylor support
A Catholic Schools NSW executive told the corruption inquiry that a message about a $15,000 commitment from Angus Taylor may have been a boast rather than a real pledge.
The NSW corruption watchdog heard on Thursday that a Reformers associate may have misled others about a $15,000 commitment from federal opposition leader Angus Taylor. Catholic Schools NSW chief executive Dallas McInerney gave evidence to the Independent Commission Against Corruption in Sydney.
McInerney said he had not asked Taylor for money for the Christian Liberal network at the centre of the inquiry. He suggested a message claiming Taylor’s backing could have been exaggerated.
Icac is examining whether McInerney arranged or approved donations from the body representing 600 Catholic schools to assist alleged branch-stacking efforts linked to the Reformers, a conservative Christian faction.
The hearing is part of Operation Rosny, the commission’s investigation into alleged improper fundraising and internal party manipulation in New South Wales politics.
