Legato raises $12 million to develop AI hearing glasses
The startup has come out of stealth with funding and a prototype that places its hearing-assistance system inside eyewear frames.
Legato, a hearing technology startup, has emerged from stealth with $12 million in funding and an early look at glasses that use artificial intelligence, the company said on Wednesday. The product is designed to build hearing assistance into the arms of eyewear frames.
The glasses, called Legato Frames, combine the company’s patented hearing technology with a form factor meant to look like ordinary eyewear, according to TechCrunch. The startup has not yet disclosed when the device will reach the market.
The funding round gives Legato more room to develop the product as it tries to move hearing support into a wearable device people can use throughout the day. The company’s public debut also puts it among a growing group of firms applying AI to consumer hardware.
Legato’s announcement follows a run of recent product and funding news across the technology sector, including new AI features in software and fresh licensing deals around wireless standards.
