Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies arrested a man near Donald Trump’s golf course in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, after officers said he appeared to be watching security preparations before the president’s visit. The arrest came ahead of a fundraising event Trump was due to attend at the coastal club.
According to the sheriff’s department, the man was identified as Jeanine John Taele, 38. Deputies said he had been taking photos and video of the grounds when plainclothes federal agents flagged him as suspicious.
Authorities said ammunition was found on Taele and that a 16-round magazine was in his pocket. Police later reported finding a loaded pistol and rifle among items recovered from his car and home.
Trump was scheduled to travel to the area for an event linked to the Republican National Committee. The golf course sits south of Los Angeles in the coastal community of Rancho Palos Verdes.
