Nepal flood leaves one house standing in Dhunge Bazaar

A green house in Dhunge Bazaar, Nepal, stayed standing after floodwaters tore through the surrounding area, leaving the Pyakurel family safe inside. The home has since drawn visitors who come to photograph it.

The floods damaged much of the neighborhood around the property, but the house itself was not destroyed. Local residents have described it as unusual because so little else nearby remained intact.

A separate account from Nepal also described a school where students were spared because they were away for lunch when flooding hit. Together, the reports point to the uneven way the disaster affected homes and public buildings across the country.

The damage comes amid wider flooding in Nepal that has disrupted communities and destroyed property in several places.
