Riot will end active development of 2XKO in 2026
Riot Games says it will stop active work on its League of Legends fighting game after deciding the player base is not large enough for long-term support.
Riot Games will end active development of 2XKO, its free-to-play fighting game based on League of Legends, at the end of 2026. The company said it has not seen enough players stay with the game to make continued development sustainable.
The game will still get content updates through October 2026, according to reporting from The Verge and Engadget. Riot said servers will remain online after active development stops.
2XKO launched less than a year ago, making the decision a quick reversal for a project meant to bring Riot’s characters into the fighting-game market. The company has not said whether it plans to shift the game to a smaller maintenance model beyond the update window.
Riot has built its business around League of Legends and related projects, including other spin-offs and esports efforts. 2XKO was one of its most visible attempts to expand that universe into a new genre.
