Russian drone strike near Kyiv kills at least 37 and injures dozens
A drone attack on a warehouse in the Kyiv region set off fires and explosions, damaged homes and prompted an inquiry into weapons storage near housing.
A Russian drone hit a warehouse in the Kyiv region on Saturday, killing at least 37 people and injuring dozens more, according to Ukrainian officials. The strike triggered fires and explosions in the Bucha district and damaged nearby homes.
Regional governor Tymur Tkachenko said 42 people were hurt, including four children. He said the blast also affected at least 50 residential buildings, among them a care home for older and disabled residents.
Ukrainian prosecutors have opened an investigation into why munitions were being kept so close to homes. The BBC reported that the inquiry is focused on the storage of weapons for Ukraine's military near a residential area.
The attack came in the western suburbs of Kyiv, where emergency crews worked after the strike. The area has been repeatedly targeted during Russia's wider war against Ukraine.
