Spotify adds notes to playlists so users can explain their picks
The streaming service is expanding a note-taking feature to playlists, letting people and editors add context to songs, podcasts and audiobooks.
Spotify said on Monday it is rolling out Playlist Notes, a feature that lets users explain why they included particular tracks and other audio in a playlist. The company is also giving editors a way to add those notes to selected collections.
According to Spotify, the feature builds on its earlier User Notes tool and extends beyond songs to podcast episodes and audiobooks. The notes are meant to give listeners more background on the choices behind a playlist.
Spotify said its editorial teams will use the feature on prominent playlists, including RapCaviar. The company did not say when all users would see the update or whether it would be available in every market at launch.
The addition comes as streaming platforms continue to add more social and explanatory tools around music discovery and curation.
